Story Thyme 1.14.0 is one of our biggest updates yet.

With this release, we are excited to introduce the brand-new Character Creator, a new tool that allows creators to design custom characters directly inside Story Thyme.

Instead of relying only on uploaded sprites or pre-made characters, creators can now build original characters using a growing library of character assets, including hair, eyes, expressions, clothing, accessories, and customizable colors.

Create Your Own Characters

The Character Creator gives creators the ability to mix and match different character assets to create unique characters for their stories.

Current customization options include:

• Hair styles
• Eyes
• Facial expressions
• Clothing
• Accessories
• Custom color selection

Most character assets include both a base color and an accent color, giving creators more control over the final design of their characters.

This opens the door for many different combinations, making it easier to create casts that feel personal, expressive, and unique to each story.

Save Characters for Later

Characters created in the Character Creator can be saved for future customization and easy reloading.

This means creators can return to a character later, make changes, try new outfits or colors, and continue building their cast over time.

Add Characters to Your Account

Created characters can also be conveniently added to your Story Thyme account for use in your stories.

Once added to your account, Character Creator sprites can be selected and used in the Story Editor just like other sprite assets.

Use Your Characters Outside of Story Thyme

Characters made with the Character Creator are not limited to Story Thyme projects.

Creators may also use their generated characters in projects outside of Story Thyme. We simply ask that Story Thyme be credited when Character Creator assets are used externally.

Story Editor Improvements

To support the new Character Creator sprites, Story Thyme 1.14.0 also includes several updates to the Story Editor.

These improvements give creators more flexibility when placing sprites inside their scenes.

Custom Sprite Sizing

The Story Editor now supports custom sprite sizing, allowing creators to adjust how large or small a sprite appears in a frame.

This is especially helpful for Character Creator sprites, but it can also be used with other sprite assets.

Improved Sprite Positioning

Sprite positioning has also been expanded, making it easier to control where characters appear on screen.

These updates help creators better frame scenes, adjust character placement, and create more polished visual storytelling moments.

A Growing Character Asset Library

The Character Creator is launching with an initial collection of assets, but this is only the beginning.

Story Thyme will continue expanding the Character Creator asset library over time with more hairstyles, eyes, expressions, clothing, accessories, and color options.

Future plans include:

• More clothing sets and accessory options
• Additional hairstyles and facial features
• Different age options, such as child, adult, and elderly characters
• Different poses
• Different body types, including muscular and plus-sized character options
• More ways to customize and personalize characters

Supporting Human-Made Art

The Character Creator was built in partnership with WhiteGhoulStudio, who created the artwork used throughout the system.

All current Character Creator assets were illustrated by human artists, including the hairstyles, clothing, accessories, facial features, and customization options available at launch.

Story Thyme has always been about helping creators tell stories. While we have no objection to creators using AI-generated artwork in their own projects, we also believe it is important to support talented artists and creative professionals whenever possible. By partnering with WhiteGhoulStudio, we were able to invest directly in original human-made artwork while creating a flexible character creation system for our community.

The Character Creator is a major step toward making Story Thyme more flexible, creative, and accessible for storytellers.

Our goal is to give creators more tools to bring their stories to life, even if they do not have access to custom artwork or external design software.
