Story Thyme AI Labeling Guidelines
To keep things fair and transparent for everyone in our creative community, all uploaded art and music assets must be labeled according to how they were made. These labels help readers, story creators, and fellow artists understand the origin of each asset — whether hand-drawn, AI-generated, or somewhere in between.
When uploading assets, you’ll choose from one of the following labels.
Human-Made
Definition:
Created entirely by a human without the use of AI generation tools. This includes traditional drawing, digital painting, photography, original music composition, voice acting, and more.
Examples
- A sprite drawn in Procreate or Photoshop from a blank canvas
- A background painted using Clip Studio Paint
- Music composed in a digital audio workstation (DAW) by hand
- A hand-recorded voice line or sound effect
AI-Assisted
Definition:
Created using AI tools with significant human modification. This means you used an AI image or audio as a base, but added meaningful creative input that transformed or rebuilt part of the asset.
Significant editing includes
- Painting over parts of the image
- Combining multiple AI generations into a single composition
- Redrawing facial expressions or body parts
- Replacing backgrounds, altering lighting, or adding original objects
- Splicing or remixing AI-generated music with custom additions
Examples
- You generate a dog using AI, then repaint the eyes, adjust the pose, and edit the lighting to match your style
- You generate a background, but erase the original sky and paint your own
- You create an AI base for a character, then heavily alter the costume and face
AI-Generated
Definition:
Created using AI tools (such as DALL·E, Midjourney, or Stable Diffusion) with little to no human editing. This is the default label for any asset directly output from an AI generator.
Includes
- Cropping or resizing the image
- Basic color corrections or sharpening
- Light touch-ups that don’t substantially change the content
Examples
- A character portrait created in Midjourney and uploaded as-is
- A landscape image from DALL·E with only minor brightness adjustments
- An AI music track exported without remixing
Still Not Sure?
Here’s a quick rule of thumb:
- If your changes were mostly cosmetic or quick fixes, it’s likely AI-Generated
- If your changes required creative decision-making and time to execute, it may count as AI-Assisted
